Moshe Shamai and Ravit Hananel

Land Use Policy, 2021, vol. 100, issue C

Abstract: •This study examines the effect of Israel’s main urban renewal policy (TAMA 38) on urban diversity.•Sporadic renewal can have a cumulative impact and wreak substantial change (1 + 1+1 = a lot).•TAMA 38 has promoted social and housing diversity in the examined area.•Diversity in the wake of TAMA 38 may be short-lived and is likely to be replaced by segregation.•The findings highlight the importance of a local perspective in urban renewal plans.
