Oil and gas resources offshore Newfoundland

Abstract:
In earlier issues of this journal two Canadian court decisions concerning continental shelf rights offshore Newfoundland were discussed.1 It will be recalled that both the Newfoundland Court of Appeal 2 and, thereafter, the Supreme Court of Canada 3 held that the right to explore for and exploit the resources of the continental shelf adjacent to the province, and to legislate with respect thereto, rested exclusively with the relevant federal authorities.
