Marine Policy, 1989, vol. 13, issue 3, 249-265
Abstract:
The draft Guidelines and Standards on removal of offshore platforms adopted by the Maritime Safety Committee of IMO are now under consideration by other 'competent' international organizations (the London Dumping Convention; the Food and Agriculture Organization; and the United Nations Environment Programme). This article describes the negotiations in the different bodies of the IMO with special emphasis on the attitudes of the interested parties, in particular, coastal states, the offshore industry, fishing interests and environmental concerns.
