Abdul Hamid Saharuddin

Marine Policy, 1995, vol. 19, issue 2, 115-126

Abstract: The development and management of marine fisheries in Malaysia is described. The first section describes the development of the capture fisheries from the early stages until the present day, and is followed by a discussion of the problems and conflicts faced by the industry as a result of this development. The key issues regarding fishery conservation measures that need to be addressed are considered. In the final section, a conceptual model of fisheries within a management and development framework is provided and the need to take serious consideration of fisheries conservation emphasized.
