Abstract:
Time-dependent random field reliability analysis is generally time-consuming, with the consideration of temporal and spatial variation and correlation. Moreover, in practical engineering, when finite element (FE) method is employed, calculating the limit state function may be time-consuming and further exacerbating computational costs. In this study, a moment-based outcrossing rate (MOR) method is proposed for time-dependent random field reliability analysis, where the outcrossing rate is defined based on the moments of the limit state function. Taking advantage of the method of moments, a numerical algorithm is proposed to separate the FE analysis from the reliability analysis cycle, by replacing the FE model in the limit state function as equivalent parameters simulated based on the statistical moments of FE outputs. The proposed algorithm can significantly reduce the number of FE analyses and improves computational efficiency. The applicability of the MOR method is investigated through three examples, including problems with the time-consuming FE model. Results reveal that the proposed MOR method offers an efficient solution for time-dependent random field reliability analysis, delivering results with sufficient accuracy.
