Abstract:
Energy plays the most vital role in the economic growth and security of any nation. Future economic growth crucially depends on the long-term availability of energy from sources that are affordable, accessible and environmental friendly. Acute energy scarcity in India in recent years is hampering its industrial growth and economic progress. India is strongly dependent on the fossil fuels for its energy requirements which are also contributing significantly to greenhouse gases emissions. It is proposed that the introduction of renewable energy sources portfolio to the future energy mix and diversification of fuel sources will (i) enhances energy security and mitigates CO2 emission, and (ii) improves the quality of life. If India failed to protect its environment, not only its economic growth would be impeded but also would pose serious health hazards.
