Abstract:
Biogas potential studies are commonly used to assess available biomass within a specific geographical boundary to understand the relevance of biogas solutions and support their development. While numerous biogas potential studies have been published, there have been no efforts to synthesise the literature. This systematic literature review aims to fill this gap by analysing the methodologies used in 97 geographically bounded biogas potential studies. The following methodological aspects were considered: the aim, geographical scope, type of estimated potential, feedstock, data sources, conversion pathways, estimation methods, outputs and end-uses, uncertainty management, time perspective, inclusion of technological development, and transparency level of the studies.
