Abstract:
Hybrid and advanced multifunctional composite materials have been extensively investigated and used in various applications over the last few years. To meet the needs of design Engineers for efficient energy storage devices, architectured and functionalized materials have become a key focus of current research. Functionalization and modification of the internal structure of materials are key design strategies to develop an efficient material with desired properties. In recent years, various surface functionalization strategies including single heteroatom doping and surface-initiated polymerization have been employed to enhance the material's energy storage capabilities. Hence, this review discusses how surface functionalization can influence various material properties, including electrical, mechanical, thermal, physical, and morphological characteristics, and outlines potential future directions in this field. This review also explores recent advancements in new materials and design approaches for energy storage devices. This review discusses the growth of energy materials and energy storage systems. It reviews the state of current electrode materials and highlights their limitations. It also outlines future requirements for advancing the field. This review addresses the challenges and prospects of developing advanced energy storage devices and suggests potential directions for future research. This review offers a guideline for new studies in the field.
