Abstract:
ITS is a term encapsulating a very wide range of technologies, systems and applications. As these technologies underwent a great deal of development during the last 20 years, so has this term. This paper tries to cluster and define the most significant ITS technologies, matching different typologies used in Europe, America and Asia, in order to help the reader understand the systems assessed in the following papers, sometimes under different names or under one name with varying functionalities.
