Viral writing: Deconstruction, disorganization and ethnomethodology

Abstract: The paper examines writing from the viewpoints of deconstruction, disorganization and ethnomethodology, and, whilst not proclaiming to offer a synthesis of these approaches, (a) shows several areas of similarity amongst them, and (b) draws upon these analytical resources to instantiate the written textured basis of rationality and organization. The approach which is recommended provides a critique of the "enactment" perspective out-lined in Smircich and Stubbart (1985) and Weick (1988), by discussing the organization-environment theme in writings on strategic management and organization theory.
