Abstract: •Exploratory survey covering 99 respondents from 28 banks; response rate over 90%.•FTP systems are widely adopted in the surveyed banks for a variety of reasons.•The low level of FTP system sophistication may hamper regulatory compliance.•The study offers tools to evaluate the pros and cons of different FTP systems.
