The relationship between incidence and prevalence
S. Haberman
Social Science & Medicine, 1982, vol. 16, issue 8, 857-862
Abstract:
The mathematical treatment of incidence and prevalence reported elsewhere by the author is extended here to establish an exact implicit equation for the point prevalence rate. An approximate simple solution is obtained which is tested on some incidence and prevalence rates for cerebrovascular disease available from investigations at Rochester, MN, U.S.A. Despite the approximations involved, the suggested solution provides a good fit to these data available. The results are encouraging and may be useful for other diseases.
