Attitudes of a group of Egyptian medical students towards family planning

Social Science & Medicine, 1984, vol. 19, issue 2, 131-134

Abstract: One hundred and six students in their last two years of medical studies at an Egyptian national university answered a questionnaire providing insight into their attitudes towards family planning. Results indicate that about a quarter of the male respondents viewed family planning as intrinsically against Islam; this is in contrast to a much smaller fraction of the female sample. Most students were critical of the efficiency of the family planning services currently available in Egypt. Suggestions for improving such facilities were expressed and some emphasis was placed on improving the working and living conditions for the rural physicians.
