Relations geographiques entre la mortalite par cancer de l'oesophage, la cirrhose du foie, l'alcool et le tabac: Le cas de la province de Quebec

Abstract: Résumé Cette étude porte sur les relations géographiques entre la consommation d'alcool per capita, le tabagisme, la mortalité par cirrhose du foie et le cancer de l'oesophage chez les individus de 15 ans et plus de la province de Québec. La répartition géographique de ces variables est commentée dans un premier temps, leurs relations sont analysées à l'aide des méthods de corrélation et de regression dans un second temps. Finalement, nous avons retenu la technique de la régression logistique (logit regression) pour mesurer les effects conjoints de l'alcool et du tabac. Les résultants indiquent que la consommation d'alcool total est étroitement reliée à la mortalité par cirrhose du foie par contre, aucune relation significative n'a été mise à jour avec la mortalité par cancer de l'oesophage. Ces commentaires peuvent être étendus à la consommation de vin et de spiritueux. This study concerns the geographical relationships between alcohol consumption per capita; smoking and death from cirrhosis of the liver and cancer of the oesophagus in persons of 15 years old and in over in Quebec. First, the geographical distribution of variables is analysed. Secondly, we have used methods of correlation and regression in order to evaluate their relation to each other. In the latest case we have chosen the logistic regression model to investigate the simultaneous effects of alcohol and tobacco. The results show that alcohol consumption is closely related to mortality from cirrhosis of the liver. Moreover, there was no significant relation found between total alcohol consumption and oesophageal cancer. These findings can be applied to cases of consumption of wine and spirits.
