Social isolation and loneliness increase the risk of coronary heart disease: Insights from a prospective cohort study

Abstract: Social isolation and loneliness are associated with an increased risk of various diseases and all-cause mortality. Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the main cause of heart disease deaths worldwide, which affects people's quality of life and longevity. However, the causal relationship between social isolation, loneliness, and CHD remains uncertain. This study aims to explore the potential impacts of social isolation and loneliness on the risk of CHD, thereby helping identify those most susceptible to these conditions.
