Abstract:
This Introduction to a Social Science and Medicine special collection outlines key connections between institutional and social structure, power, and health. Intended for those seeking an overview of and access points to a complex and nuanced literature, we define key concepts and identify how this set of exemplar SSM papers demonstrate why and how health practices, systems, and related policies so readily undermine the health of many. We also highlight some suggested strategies through which such harms might be prevented, challenged, mitigated, or otherwise addressed.
