A table for solving the Behrens--Fisher problem

H. N. Linssen

Statistics & Probability Letters, 1991, vol. 11, issue 4, 359-363

Abstract: The Behrens--Fisher problem concerns finding an interval estimate for the difference between the means of two normal populations, without making any assumption about the variances. At present, statisticians cannot agree on its solution. In this paper, a credible and sharp solution is described. It is compared with the solutions of Behrens (see Fisher, 1956), Welch (1947) and Wilkinson, Venables and James (1979).
