Exchangeable mixture models for lifetimes: the role of "occupation numbers"

Anna Gerardi, Fabio Spizzichino and Barbara Torti

Statistics & Probability Letters, 2000, vol. 49, issue 4, 365-375

Abstract: We study several aspects of a special type of exchangeable distributions. These distributions arise when considering the lifetimes of the individuals in a population divided into d different subpopulations and there is a (symmetric) dependence among categories of single individuals. The role of "occupation numbers" in this context is highlighted.
