Statistics & Probability Letters, 1987, vol. 5, issue 2, 129-134
Abstract:
Whittemore's (1978) definition of collapsibility is generalized from combining all levels of a factor to partially collapsing, i.e., combining only some levels of a factor. Necessary and sufficient conditions for partial collapsibility are given, and the relationship between partial collapsibility and conditional independence explored.
