Abstract:
We show that under certain conditions the Kaplan-Meier (KM) estimator from a sample with shorter survival times can be greater than that from a sample with longer survival times. Such a counter-intuitive property of the KM estimator should be taken into account in its application, but the condition causing such phenomena has not yet been studied. In this paper, we give sufficient conditions for such peculiar behavior of the KM estimator.
