Abstract: •Technologies often have social impacts that positively or negatively affect the realization of values defining a good society.•Intrinsic values for a good society are well-being and justice; instrumental values are freedom, democracy and sustainability.•For each of these values, there are ways to develop technology so as to systematically support it and promote a good society.
