Telecommunications evolution in the UK

Abstract:
The Conservative government elected in 1979 has dramatically changed the face of telecommunications in the UK. This article explains the government's goals for its liberalization and privatization programmes and the legislative means by which they were achieved. The successes of the new stimulants to the industry are shown to be substantial, and business and residential customers have benefited.
