Changes in telecommunications equipment trade: The case of Germany
Thomas Schnöring
Telecommunications Policy, 1988, vol. 12, issue 2, 127-139
Abstract:
The old image of the equipment industry has to be modified with respect to the role of international trade. This paper analyses the international trade position of the German equipment industry and the role of equipment imports in the German market. The German situation is compared with that of the USA and Japan. To what extent is the old industry structure due to economic characteristics, and to the regulations of the telecommunications sector? An answer to this question is important in order to assess correctly the future impact of the recommended liberalization of the German telecommunications sector on the structure of international trade and industry.
