The broadbandwagon!: A personal view of optical fibre to the home

A. Michael Noll

Telecommunications Policy, 1989, vol. 13, issue 3, 197-201

Abstract: Broadband to the home is here again, this time in the form of optical fibre capable of carrying a host of two-way interactive and one-way broadcast audio and video services, ranging from simple telephony to video-on-demand. Although many seem eager to jump on the 'broadbandwagon', I claim that the technology, consumer, market and industry are all very hazy and doubtful. Hence, a wise strategy would be to remain on the sidelines and let the broadbandwagon pass by.
