Global cooperation in an era of deregulation
Richard A. Gershon
Telecommunications Policy, 1990, vol. 14, issue 3, 249-259
Abstract:
This article examines the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (Intelsat), the world's foremost satellite carrier and non-profit global cooperative, and the strategic issues facing this organization in the light of international deregulatory changes in the field of telecommunications. Intelsat faces new competitive challenges from two distinct sources, including private satellite systems and the continued deployment of sub-oceanic fibre-optic cable by a consortium of international common carriers.
