Information cities in Europe 1992

Mark E. Hepworth

Telecommunications Policy, 1991, vol. 15, issue 3, 175-181

Abstract: The coming of the Single European Market in 1992 is intensifying competition among leading cities for investment, jobs and services. The deployment of information technology is central to the profound structural changes that are affecting Europe's cities as a result. In this Comment the author surveys the range of strategies being developed to boost the local economy and public service provision. Government action will be necessary, he warns, to offset the potential intensification of social and regional disadvantage.
