Abstract:
This article generically identifies the economic criteria that determine market power and applies them to the provision of 800 service. Despite the comparatively late growth of competition, this market segment is currently capable of supporting effective competition. There is vigorous and socially healthy rivalry among new and incumbent 800 service providers. Hence the merits of current regulatory policies towards 800 service are in considerable doubt and need to be re-evaluate.
