Risk, reputation and responsibility: Cybersecurity and centralized data in United States civilian federal agencies
Erika Heeren-Moon
Telecommunications Policy, 2023, vol. 47, issue 2
Abstract:
•The Foundations of Evidence in Policymaking Act of 2018 includes little support for necessary cybersecurity infrastructure.•U.S. federal interagency cybersecurity is too fragmented to effectively secure a centralized data initiative at scale.•Nearly half of federal agencies report lacking the infrastructure to maintain an effective cybersecurity protocol..•A reduction in cybersecurity incidents is attributed to a 2016 reporting policy change that excludes certain events.•Infrastructure to support a standardized cybersecurity policy is a missed opportunity in the Evidence in Policymaking Act.
