Abstract: The author presents an overview of a number of symmetric and asymmetric audio and audio-video experiments conducted over terrestrial and space communication systems. Some of the systems described may be implemented in the 1980s and some in the 1990s. The author concludes with detailed descriptions of two prototype systems: one for the 1980s and one for the 1990s.
