Using Q methodology to develop more perceptive insights on transport and social inclusion

Fiona Rajé

Transport Policy, 2007, vol. 14, issue 6, 467-477

Abstract: This paper describes an exploratory study using Q methodology to investigate perceptions of transport's role in people's lives. In this study, Q helped reveal four distinct attitudes towards transport amongst participants. The findings suggest that Q methodology offers an innovative way of defining discourses which frame participants' views on transport and that such micro-scale analysis can facilitate the development of more nuanced understandings of transport and social inclusion.
