Abstract:
•This study examines the impact of congestion charging on private car ownership.•A quasi-natural experiment design is applied through spatial difference-in-differences.•The London Congestion Charge is used as a case study.•An Average Treatment Effect on the Treated of 6.95% ownership reduction is identified.•The identified impact is useful in the design or augmentation of congestion charging policies.
