Abstract:
The paper aims at assessing container terminals' (CTs) efficiency from the sustainable development perspective by the BWM-GRA-SBM model. Its originalities include (1) assessing CTs' efficiency from three sustainable dimensions, viz., economic, environmental, and social ones, (2) proposing the modality movement approach to figure out the amount of CO2 emitted by CTs, (3) adopting the integration of the Best-Worst Method (BWM) and Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) to estimate job dissatisfaction indexes (JDIs) representing the social pillar of sustainable development, (4) using the Slacks-Based Measure (SBM) to estimate CTs' efficiency with considering CO2 emissions and JDIs as undesirable outputs, (5) taking CTs in the port of Kaohsiung (the Taiwanese-CTs case) as an empirical study to validate the model. The proposed research framework can contribute a methodological reference towards the pertinent research in assessing CTs' efficiency from a sustainable viewpoint. Further, the empirical results can provide managerial information for container terminal operators (CTOs) in the port of Kaohsiung to improve their CTs’ operating efficiency.
