Mr. Dupuit and the marginalists
Werner Rothengatter
Transport Policy, 2018, vol. 70, issue C, 32-39
Abstract:
•Comparable to the general theory of J. M. Keynes the work of J. Dupuit has been misunderstood by neo-classical economists.•Dupuit is not a marginalist rather than discovered early the importance of product and price discriminations for sectors operating under high fixed costs.•He was also not the founder of Marshall's partial economic approach to CBA rather than prepared the „secret origins of wider economic impacts“ of transport investments.
