Patents as a source of scientific and technical information in developing nations

Abstract:
Characteristics of patent documents, recent changes in them, and recent external developments designed to facilitate the use of patent documents are detailed to support the suggestion that patents are potentially a primary source of scientific and technical information available to developing nations. Comparison to the journal literature is made.
