New patent information resources from chemical abstracts service

Abstract: Patent documents have always been recognized by Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) as an important source of technical information. Abstracts of chemical and chemical engineering patents have been included in Chemical Abstracts (CA) since 1907, when the first issue of CA was published. Today, there are over 2.2 million patent citations in CA. To improve access to this body of information in its online databases, CAS recently introduced new methods for searching protein and peptide sequences in the CAS REGISTRY file and a new service for searching Markush structures in patents, the MARPAT file. Benefits and details of these new information resources for patent searchers are outlined.
