Abstract:
The article describes a system for identifying the correct field of search, particularly in subject areas unfamiliar to the searcher. From a sample search a list of significant terms is drawn up and the documents are analyzed to define groups containing, respectively, one term from the derived list, two terms and so on. The numbers in the respective groups are compared and those containing the highest numbers indicate the most likely areas in which to continue the search. The system is exemplified by a search for the subject "Magneto-optical recording of information".
