Patenting activity in the field of biotechnology: Indian scenario

Abstract:
This paper analyses the trends in the patenting of inventions in India in the field of biotechnology, with reference to the provisions under the Indian Patents Act, 1970; the analysis covers the period 1972-1991. The results for the study have been generated from the Computerised Database on Indian Patents developed by the Patents Unit, Technology Utilisation Division, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi with financial support from the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi. The bibliographic information contained in the Database relates to the patents accepted and notified in the Gazette of India, Part III, Section-2, a weekly publication.
