Abstract:
Many countries, in particular the USA, have shown a sustained interest in the work of Russian scientists and engineers in areas such as astronautics and computing. One of the main reasons for this is the considerable number of Russian inventions. To facilitate the wider use of patent information from Russia, Ilmenau Technical University addressed the task of providing simple, fast and cheap searching with immediate full-text retrieval via its PATON server. PATON (http://www.patent-inf.tu-ilmenau.de/) now offers access to the English-language database PAR, with on-line delivery of the full text of Russian-language patent documents since 1994. The former service is free, but a fee is charged for the latter. The full text of documents before 1994 may be ordered on-line, but can only be delivered by post or fax.
