Abstract:
A rapid growth of industry and commerce has taken place in South-East Asia during recent years and this is expected to continue. With the development of technology comes the need for improved protection of industrial property. This is best achieved through cooperation between the ASEAN nations on the development of a more efficient patent system. The aim of this article is to inventory the development of patent systems in this region and to sketch how a major improvement could be obtained by the establishment of a regional patent organization. The prospects at present however appear to be rather poor.
