Abstract: One century after the first edition of the Theory of the Economic Development, Schumpeter’s ideas remain so current that Schumpeter himself would be surprised. In this paper we propose to perform a new reading especially over the second chapter of the Theory in order to check the validity of his teachings and his consistency overtime. A quick review of Shumpeter’s influence over current economic research and over modern theory of innovation and entrepreneurship is also included
