Problems and prospects of the introduction of Basel II in the world and in Ukraine

Abstract: The author considers the basic problems concerning the introduction of the new Basel agreement on capital (Basel II) in the world and in the Ukrainian banking community. Also, the article shows experience of the leading countries of the world and some CIS countries in their process of realization of Basel II. Presented possible consequences of the implementation of Basel II for an economy on the whole and banks in particular. The author considers Ukraine's position in relation to the transition to the new standards of capital estimation (Basel II), and analyses existing problems, risks and threats for the Ukrainian banking system.
