Freedom Stands: A Rejoinder to Ott

Ryan H. Murphy

Econ Journal Watch, 2022, vol. 19, issue 2, 242–246

Abstract: Jan Ott (2018) objects to the methodology used in Economic Freedom of the World index of economic freedom, a project which I am directly involved in. In the previous issue of this journal, I commented on Ott, and he graciously replied. In retrospect, I feel that my treatment of the main issues was not as clear and simple as it could have been. In this brief rejoinder I present an interpretation of our differences based on what I feel is an improved understanding of the discourse.
