Abstract: This article analyses the trend towards services experienced by the Spanish economy in recent years. The author discusses the problems arising from the tendency to deal with the services sector as a unit and from the deficient statistical coverage given to the sector. This is followed by a study of the behaviour of the two major variables relevant to the supply of services-production and employment. The article ends with a discussion of certain factors that can help explain the tertiarization process in Spain.
