Abstract: The Securities Market Reform Law has modernised the stock market in Spain, calling into question the future continuity of the Bilbao Stock Exchange. From the intense debates now occumng as a result of this Law, Rafael Cosgaya and Ildefonso Grande have identified the problems that appear to have greatest impact on this question. The article offers a view of the general situation in the Spanish stock market and the role of the Bilbao Stock Exchange, so as to decide upon a strategy for its survival, which, in the authors opinion, can only occur if a major effort is made.
