Abstract:
There is a permanent tension on markets between conflict and cooperation. Without a high level of rivalty on markets, there is the risk of abuse and a consequent damage to the interests of consumers. Companies will have fewer incentivos to reduce costs and to act effectively. On the other hand, cooperation between companies may facilitase transactions and contracts which promote efficiency. Cooperation agreements may reduce the uncertainty which exists on markets, lessen the differences of information available to individuals and restrict opportunistic behaviours. The competition policy must provide and appropriate solution for this dilemma. If it is successful, companies will benefit because they will be more competitive.
