Abstract:
This paper presents the first exploratory results of a comparativa investigation of the patterns of innovative activities in four European countries: Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom. Using patents registered by these countries, the analysis aims at testing for the existence of regularities in such patterns, the «technology-specific» features of innovative processes, and idenfifying the «country-specific» components of innovative activities, wich derive from the industrial and institutional context of any one country. A wide set of indicators is used, capable of capturing variables such as the dynamism, veriety and stability/instability of technological innovation.
