Abstract:
This article presents an analysis of the economic results of Spanish corporations between 1983 and 1992, based on the sample of enterprises of the Bank of Spain''''s Balance Sheet Central Office. The analysis is centred on operating results and uses flow and stock magnitudes which have been adjusted by changes in absolute and relative prices. The results thereof reveal a certa in stagnation in corporate economic efficiency over the 1988-1992 period, which, combined with the behaviour of capital and labour factor prices, deteriorases profitability and the economic margin, which brought about the consequent negative repercussions on competitiveness, employment and investment. Several recommendations are made in order to recover the propensity to invest.
