Abstract: This article introduces the two existing forms of cooperative companies which now exist in Quebec: cooperative companies and cooperatives of shareholders. Cooperatives of shareholders, which are not very widely known, are entirely innovative as they group workers who, collectively, posses a certain amount of shares of the company they work for. Cooperatives of shareholders are mainly to be found among small and medium-sized companies in the manufacturing sector where they aspire to become more competitive. As with cooperative companies, cooperatives of shareholders have multiplied largely due to state intervention and to that of "advisory groups". However, their rules and regulations offer shareholders less decision power than in cooperative companies.
