Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to provide an introduction to the theoretical literature relative to international trade policy. The use of different instruments of trade policy has generated a growing interest of economists for the study of their effects. The main conclusion is that although the new perspective based on the existence of imperfect competition can provide arguments for protection, the theoretical results are usually very sensitive to the specification of the models and to the reality that they study.
