Abstract:
In this paper we study the relationship between foreign direct investment and international trade for the Spanish economy. After presenting the main theoretical aspects of this relationship, within the international trade theory framework, we analyse the results of the studies for the Spanish case. In general terms, this paper finds a complementarity between these two variables. In our sectoral study we find this positive relationship too, but not between the Spanish foreign direct investment and trade. Finally, we conclude on the influence of the complementarity relationship between foreign direct investment and trade on the specialization of the Spanish economy.
